XML Introduction and Overview

DESCRIPTION: This course provides students with the concepts of XML, the eXtensible Markup Language, its structure, syntax and applications. Students will learn by example and exercise the process and language for developing XML doocuments, their associated Document Type Definintions (DTD)s and XML Schema documents, and the mechanisms for transformation and presentation using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and the eXtensible Stylesheet Language (XSL). Numerous examples from the WorldWide Web will be sampled and studied to demonstrate to the students the impact and power of XML in a variety of standards initiatives.

PREREQUISITES: None

INSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES: A combination of Lecture, Demonstration, and Labs.

Any student wishing to become involved at the management or technical level in the use of XML in projects or corporate or industry-wide design, development and application of standardized XML documents.
