DB2 UDB for z/OS Database Design, Administration & Performance

DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to give students the techniques and procedures used to properly Design and Plan the DB2 database Environment. Students will learn the database Design Process and Review the Steps required to Normalize a database in the DB2 Environment. In addition, students will evaluate administration techniques and how to evaluate the performance of DB2 applications.

PREREQUISITES: Working knowledge of DB2 fundamentals, terminology and facilities.

INSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES: A combination of Lecture, Exercises and Labs (when/where available).

  • Discuss Distributed Data and DB2
  • Discuss the Distributed Relational Data Architecture
  • Evaluate the IBM Information Warehouse and Understand DDCS
  • Establish Disk Space Requirement for DB2 Tables
  • Understand the DB2 Security Environment and use the Grant/Revoke Commands
  • Review the Routine and Customary Functions of the DB2 Data Administrator
  • Identify database Design Problems and Performance Issues
  • Review Shop Specific Issues Related to database Design
